What a disaster.
I'd even go as far as to say that Cincinnati Zoo's Festival of Lights/Polar Express was an embarassment.
For no reason other than pure false and misleading advertising.
All the messaging we saw, and the tickets we purchased were promoted as being the whole deal.
After arriving and paying $6 for parking followed by entry fees to get into the zoo, we then found out that the tickets we'd purchased were only for the zoo and that it was extra for the Polar Express show .... oh, and that at 7pm, they were sold out until the 9pm show.
None of the zoo animals, except one polar bear and a couple of red butt monkeys were to be seen.
And to boot... the signs at the zoo were totally screwed up and facing the wrong way.
I will never, ever spend another dime at that zoo. Poorly organized, badly advertised and overall just a waste of time and money.
It's a shame really, since so many families see the local zoo as a great source of family entertainment - there is so much potential there. But to have left such a bad taste in our mouths, how long can they keep it up?
Urgh. Clearly I'm not thrilled about tonight's excursion. Not feeling too warm and fuzzy about Cincinnati (or Ohio for that matter) in general. Call it a bad day. But, really the rest of the day was fine. Just really annoying when you gather all the family together and traipse 45 minutes into the city to end up feeling like you've had the wool pulled over your eyes and that there's nothing you can do about it.
Well, I hope that this post somehow shows up on searches done for the Festival of Lights - warning other families about to make the same mistake we did. Better yet, wouldn't it be great if the zoo management (do they even have a marketing department?) were to read this and realize what a missed opportunity they had and the potential degree of detractors they're creating for themselves....
