RSVP?

So, it has occurred to me that perhaps in this day and age of 2008, perhaps people have forgotten or 'unlearned' the meaning and purpose of R.S.V.P.

And, since I created this blog as a means for spouting off my opinion, I thought I'd place this lesson into the universe in the hopes that maybe just one person learns or is reminded of the meaning and reasoning behind R.S.V.P.

Definition: R.S.V.P. stands for "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond" according to several web sources including about.com and wikipedia.com.

In fact, entertaining.about.com does a really nice job of explaining what this means, what you're supposed to do, and why! Read the whole article here.

In short, the idea is that when you're invited somewhere and the invitation asks you to RSVP by a certain date--you should respond, promptly, one way or another. This makes it so much easier for the host to plan appropriately for food, drinks, equipment, favors or whatever else is being provided for an event.

RSVP does not mean wait until the last moment before the party to see if something better comes up and make your decision then. That's just rude and inconsiderate.

Agree? Disagree? Share your comments with me. I'd love to hear opinions from other perspectives.

You're correct. I agree. People who don't RSVP are so inconsiderate and plan rude.
